Pomegranate (Anar) - Medical Significances
Pomegranate is quite known to the people as a remedy to the gastritis. But there are many other medical significances of pomegranate. Nutritionally, pomegranate is rich in energy only, providing 90 calories per 100 gm. It is also rich in tannin, which acts as an astringent in the intestines and precipitates food proteins. It is advised in diarrhoea, though there is no evidence of its effeciency in improving this condition. The leaves of promegranate plant has significant improvement in the condition of diarrhoea.
The juice is one of the best for bladder disorders and has a slight purgative effect. For elderly people it is a wonderful kidney and bladder tonic.
There are some significances and methods to use promegranate as medicine:
1. Ripe fruit juice is good in typhoid fever, gastric and asthmatic fevers.
2. The fruit juice is highly effective in reducing high blood pressure.
3. The fruit juice with honey is an age-old remedy for loss of memory.
4. Anaemia: Dissolve quater spoon cinnamon and 2 spoons honey in 1 cup pomegranate juice and drink.
5. Asthma, cough: Mix juice of fresh ginger, pomegranate and honey in equal quantities. Take 1 spoon of this mixture once or twice a day.
