Posted on February 18th, 2008 in Nature Cure by admin

Amla is a very small fruit as it looks but it is one of the most useful fruit as medicine. The ripe fruits are yellowish-green, fleshy and are very rich in vitamin C. Fruits are pickled and also eaten fresh. Amla fruit has been held in high esteem in indigenous medicine. It is acidic, cooling, refrigerant, diuretic and laxative. In combination with iron, amla is used as a remedy for anaemia, jaundice and dyspepsia. Amla is one of the three ingredients in Triphala, a compound in indigenous medicine, used in the treatment of headache, biliousness, dyspepsia, constipation, enlarged liver and ascites.

Find out how amla can be used to cure constipation and other disorders:

1. Constipation: Soak 1 or 2 dried fruits in water overnight. Mash and filter the next morning. Add 1 spoon honey and drink.

2. Urinary problems: Soak separately 2 spoons each dried amla and raisins in water overnight. Mash, filter and drink the next morning. Continue for a few days.

3. Headache, heaviness in head: Grind the fresh fruits into a fine paste and apply on affected parts.

4. Skin problem: Grind the dried fruits into a fine powder and use as a substitute for soap.

5. Anxiety, loss of appetite: Remove seeds from fresh fruits and grind the pulp into a fine paste. Tale it in a muslin cloth and squeeze out the juice. Take 2 spoons of this juice and mix it with two spoonfuls each honey and limejuice. Add a teacup water and drink on an empty stomach every morning.
